My name is Natalie and I am an aspiring ballerina from Australia. Recently I left the comforts of my family, friends and home to travel half way across the world to study in Germany. In September 2013, I started my first year at the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim, Germany.
Moving to a country where you don’t speak the language and leaving of the comforts of your home is daunting but I finally feel like I am beginning to settle in. Before I moved to Germany I was studying for 2 years full time dance at the Russian Choreographic Academy under the direction of Susan Thomson from which I learnt so much from. I am so grateful for every opportunity I have been given and I wouldn’t be pursing my dreams if it wasn’t for the support of my family. Although it hasn’t been always easy (more of that later).
So far I am loving the training here at the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim. In the four weeks I have been here I have learnt so much already. It is so different from Australia where I am use to small classes however I am loving being in a larger class. I have found being in a larger class pushes me even more to be the best of the class. All my new teachers have been so supportive and helpful. Although at times it is hard to keep track of all the corrections (mainly because they correct us in German)… Sometimes I even have to write some of the corrections down to remember them all!
This blog will mainly be about my new life in Germany, my dancing aspirations and everything in between… (I am also a massive foodie! I love to bake in my spare time)
